He Slipped From the Branch and Stayed Quiet Beneath the Roots

The morning air in the Angkor Wat forest felt heavy after a night of light rain. Leaves still carried droplets, and the branches above looked slick under the soft sunlight. A small monkey followed closely behind its mother as the troop moved through the trees. It paused near a low branch, reaching for balance while watching the others move ahead.

Then, without warning, the branch bent beneath its weight.

The baby slipped between tangled roots and landed quietly on the forest floor. It did not run or cry loudly. Instead, it stayed still beneath a cluster of exposed roots, looking upward toward the movement above.

The mother stopped several feet away. She looked down from a nearby branch, watching carefully before climbing lower. The troop slowed around her. Some monkeys paused in silence, while others continued through the trees.

For several moments, the forest felt unusually calm. The mother eventually reached the ground and sat nearby, allowing the baby time to gather itself before climbing closer.

The scene lasted only minutes, but it carried a quiet reminder of how fragile young life can feel in the wild.
